ARABIAN NIGHT by Roland Schimmelphennig, 2006-2008

Performance
Duration: 1hr 30mins

The text by German playwright Roland Schimmelphennig is translated into Hindi by Rajesh Tailang. Arabian Night tells the story of two lovers, a beautiful insomniac, a voyeur and the building’s caretaker whose lives becomeintertwined on a hot summer night when their building’s water supply disappears and they are drawn to an apartment to meet their fate. The play consists of five intermingling descriptive monologue-like narratives in the present continuous tense. These textual narrations describe physical actions that the characters in the play travel though or those that they observe other characters doing. Later these monologues describe dream-like landscapes and situations that the characters inhabit.
